Request for Applications: Wind for Schools
The GEO is now accepting applications for the Wind for Schools Grant. The Wind for Schools Program engages rural school teachers and students in wind energy education and educates college students about wind energy applications. Selected host schools receive a small 1.8 kW wind turbine to provide students with a concrete example of how wind energy works, while allowing for an exciting hands-on educational opportunity using state-of-the-art technology. Eligible applicants are schools districts located in Colorado that can demonstrate decent wind resources, excellent curriculum inclusion and project sustainability.

K-12 Schools
In most school districts, utility costs are second only to salary as the greatest expense. The Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) can help schools reduce their energy costs and allocate the savings toward improved facilities and academics.
In 2007 Governor Ritter signed House Bill 07-1309 requiring GEO to improve energy efficiency in all Colorado schools. To accomplish this directive, GEO has developed the following exciting programs:
- The Performance Contracting Program to serve existing facilities
- The High Performance Building Program for new facilities
A public elementary schoolGEO is currently seeking schools that are interested in partnering to make energy improvements in school buildings. Interested parties are invited to submit a K- 12 Schools program partnership interest form found on the Funding Opportunities page.
